Many people have serious misconceptions
about starting an Internet business.

How would you answer these questions?

  • How many pages do I need on my website?
  • What brings traffic to my website?
  • Can I get sales from my website immediately?

The answers are probably quite different from what you've been led to believe.


Assuming you've taken the time to read your SBI Action Guide, the following information will come as no surprise. But if you have not "read the manual," for whatever reason, the following may shock you!

THERE ARE NO "SECRETS" - JUST BASIC STEPS!

Site Build It!If you were building a house, would you put up the walls before setting the foundation? Of course not! But we hear from folks every day who are about to go about building a website in just that backwards a manner.

There are 4 Basic Steps in the SBI Concept of
LOTS of Pages with LOTS of Great Content:

1) Do keyword research for the theme you are considering.

If this research is done properly you will find 100-500 keyword phrases that could be potential pages on your website. We exclusively use "Wordtracker" for this process.

Another benefit of this exercise is that it will show you the demand and supply (competition) for any keyword. This will help you determine if your theme and/or your keywords are any good.

If you build it, will they come?

2) Remember, it is keywords and content that brings you traffic!

Probably the most often asked question we get is, "How many pages should I build?" It isn't easy to answer.

We'll explain using a fishing analogy: If you toss a few hooks into the water and catch a few fish, doesn't it make sense that if you tossed a few more hooks, with irresistable bait (keywords), into the water you would catch more fish? In other words . . . the more hooks (pages), the more fish (traffic)!

The more pages you build, the more traffic you can receive. Ken Evoy, the founder of SBI, states that you should start with a minimum of 20 pages . . . and then just keep building. Keyword research will provide you the basis for an outline of your website and give you a strong indication of the site it can and should be.

What about the Search Engines, like Google?

3) One of the great misconceptions about the Internet is that you can get almost instant sales just by putting up a website.

Boy, if that were true the total number of websites would be ten times what it is today!

The main factor most people overlook is TIME. The search engines are constantly changing their "algorithms" (search parameters), seemingly daily and even hourly. Plus, it takes time after your website is built for it to be "spidered" (analyzed) by the search engines, and then more time to be "indexed" (accepted for listing).

Making matters worse, if you have chosen a highly competitive niche, even more time is required by the search engines for your pages to make their way through the all the competition pages. The majority of the competition pages are not well written nor properly optimized for the search engines, and do not provide content based on the keyword theme . . . unlike yours, of course.

This process can take from a few weeks to many months . . . and you and your webmasters do not have any control over the search engines, no matter what you may read or hear. All we can do is provide great keyword-oriented content and trust that the cream will rise to the top, which it will.

What if your theme has virtually NO competition?

4) There are always exceptions to rules.

Yes, you may be lucky enough to have found a niche with few or no competitors. Of course, in most cases this is a "catch 22," as the reason there are few competitors is probably because there is little demand for your product or service, so make sure you have a viable product or service.

Even then, realistically, getting good Google and other search engine rankings takes a lot of work and a lot of patience. This includes even after the website is built and the search engines have visited the pages and their spidering and indexing is complete. The search engines, including specifically Google, often update their page rankings only once per quarter.

We strive to assure that our clients' pages are optimized to attain at least a Google Page Rank of 4, in a reasonable length of time . . . usually 6-9 months.

Due to the search engines becoming more and more complex and sophisticated, the next step is to arrange for inbound links to your site from other, similar sites on the Net. Also, you need to find quality websites with which to exchange links, as the engines look for this. Not doing this is the number one reason sites lose their rankings. Doing this process over time will improve your rankings.

For good rankings you need good keywords,
good content and a few back links!

Bottom Line:

5) Never stop adding new pages with new content, and researching for better keywords.
